The new playbook
What is AI search visibility?
AI search visibility is how often AI answer engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews — find, trust and cite your website when people ask buying questions. It rests on three disciplines DigiJaws measures and fixes.
Generative Engine Optimization
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of structuring a site’s content, markup and authority signals so generative AI engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini select it as a cited source. Where SEO targets a ranked link, GEO targets a citation inside the answer.
Explore GEO AEOAnswer Engine Optimization
Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the practice of writing and structuring pages so a search or AI engine can extract a direct answer from them — for Google AI Overviews, featured snippets and voice assistants. It relies on answer-first paragraphs, question-shaped headings and FAQ structured data.
Explore AEO AGENT-READYAgent Readiness
Agent readiness is the degree to which a website can be discovered, understood and acted on by autonomous AI agents without a human in the loop. DigiJaws scores it on three conditions: AI crawlers are allowed in robots.txt, an llms.txt file describes the site, and key facts are exposed as machine-readable structured data.

Why AI answers are replacing search clicks
Ten blue links just became one answer. AI answer engines now answer the question on the results page instead of listing links, so the only sites that still receive traffic are the ones the answer cites as sources. Visibility now depends on being cited, not on ranking.
58.5%
of US Google searches in 2024 ended without a click to another website.

DigiJaws AI Readiness Index
How AI-ready is the average website?
Most sites don’t learn they’re invisible to AI until a competitor gets named instead. Across our index the average site is missing more than half the signals AI engines use to decide who to cite.

Frequently asked questions about AI search visibility
What is DigiJaws?
DigiJaws is a free AI visibility checker that scans a website and scores how ready it is to be found, understood and cited by AI answer engines. Every scan checks 18 technical signals across discovery, understanding and trust. It returns publish-ready fixes: an llms.txt file, Organization and FAQ JSON-LD, AI-crawler robots.txt rules and answer-first rewrites.
Is my website in ChatGPT?
A free DigiJaws scan checks the 18 technical signals that decide whether an answer engine can find, read and quote your pages, and shows you which ones you are failing. Per-engine citation tracking, which engines actually name you, is part of the paid Prompt Observatory.
What is the difference between an AI mention and a citation?
A mention is when an AI engine names your brand inside its answer. A citation is when it links your website as the source of that answer. Citations send traffic and carry more weight with the model; mentions still shape which brands a buyer considers. DigiJaws reports both, per engine.
What is AI search visibility?
AI search visibility is how often AI answer engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews — find, trust and cite your website when people ask buying questions. Unlike classic SEO, which optimizes for ranking a link, AI visibility optimizes for being the source the AI quotes.
How is this different from SEO?
SEO gets your page to rank in a list of blue links for a human to click. AI search visibility gets your brand cited inside the answer an AI gives, so you win the customer before the click ever happens. Both matter; they are not interchangeable.
What is an llms.txt file and do I need one?
An llms.txt file is a Markdown file served at a website’s root (example.com/llms.txt) that gives large language models a short description of the site and a curated list of its most important pages. It was proposed by Jeremy Howard of Answer.AI in September 2024. No major AI engine has publicly confirmed using it as a ranking or citation signal, so treat it as cheap insurance rather than a ranking factor: it takes minutes to publish and makes a site’s key content easier for AI tools and agents to locate. DigiJaws drafts one from your existing pages.
How fast is a scan, and is it really free?
A scan checks 18 signals and returns your AI Readiness Score plus publish-ready fixes in about 60 seconds. It is free, with no signup and no credit card.
